Crystalline Admixture as Healing Promoter in Concrete Exposed to Chloride-Rich Environments: Experimental Study

چکیده

The requirements on service life of reinforced concrete structures, as prescribed by design codes, may be difficult to fulfilled in highly aggressive environments such marine ones, which premature degradation is most likely occur. In the aforementioned situations, avoid expensive repair activities, different protective systems, including, among others, self-healing concrete, could adopted. Researchers have found a way face problems chloride-rich environments. If significant degree crack sealing can achieved, physical properties cracked element trend back those an identical uncracked element, also result slower penetration rate substances. main problem exploiting this methodology related its reliability. context, experimental program aimed at investigating effectiveness crystalline admixtures healing stimulating agent was carried out. influence exposure conditions compressive strength development and recovery predamaged specimens first analyzed. Afterwards, chloride permeability sealed cracks were evaluated for continuously immersed or subjected wet/dry cycles 16.5% NaCl aqueous solution. Both enhanced improved ability observed samples containing agent. A microstructure study products conducted means scanning electron microscope (SEM) energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis well.

Experimental Studies on Concrete with Bentonite as Mineral Admixture

The present investigation deals with effect of bentonite clay on concrete. The concrete was produced by partial replacement of OPC with mineral admixture bentonite clay in percentages of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The M20 grade of concrete was designed. The compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength were found for the specimens. The present investigation is to study the e...

Quantification of the Service Life Extension and Environmental Benefit of Chloride Exposed Self-Healing Concrete

Formation of cracks impairs the durability of concrete elements. Corrosion inducing substances, such as chlorides, can enter the matrix through these cracks and cause steel reinforcement corrosion and concrete degradation. Self-repair of concrete cracks is an innovative technique which has been studied extensively during the past decade and which may help to increase the sustainability of concr...

Autogeneous healing and chloride ingress in cracked concrete

An experimental study of the influence of autogeneous healing on chloride ingress in cracked concrete is presented. In the study, two concrete mixtures (a Portland cement mix and a blast furnace slag mix), two healing regimes (submerged and fog room regime), two cracking ages (14 and 28 days), and multiple crack widths are used as parameters. An adapted Rapid Chloride Migration testing procedur...

Experimental investigation of the strength of glass fiber-reinforced concrete exposed to high temperature

This study investigated the effects of high temperature exposure on the compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths of concrete containing glass fiber. A total of 108 cubic specimens (150 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm), cylindrical specimens (300 mm × 150 mm), and prismatic specimens (500 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm) were prepared for compressive, tensile, and flexural strength testing, respectively. The spec...

Experimental Study on Durability Improvement of Fly Ash Concrete with Durability Improving Admixture

In order to improve the durability of fly ash concrete, a series of experimental studies are carried out, where durability improving admixture is used to reduce drying shrinkage and improve freezing-thawing resistance. The effects of durability improving admixture, air content, water-binder ratio, and fly ash replacement ratio on the performance of fly ash concrete are discussed in this paper. ...
